bendable leg box comparison(my three 'printed in USA' boxes)

This is a one of observation of the box for vintage bendable leg doll. I’ve divided my boxes into ‘Printed in USA’ and ‘Printed in Japan’ versions and these are my three ‘Printed in USA’ boxes. As you can see, there are not ‘K＋number’ stamp inside of the cover box, however the number I’ve confirmed is too small. According to the somethingabouttheboy.com(the best site ever!), US-print version is older than Japan-print version from the attached booklet. I think some of female doll in US-printed box are the earliest among the US-print box. for example my Ken/Skipper boxes are written as ‘Made in Japan./Printed in U.S.A.’ on the box lids, but my Midge box is different that is written ‘Made and printed in U.S.A’. it’s the same notation as #1060 ‘Miss-Barbie’ which was introduced in 1964.

I’ve heard that most of Miss-Barbie was made in USA and she seems to be the predecessor of bendable leg Barbie. I’ve attached the package photos of Miss-Barbie below (all photos from the internet) which says ‘costume & wigs imported from Japan/made & printed in USA’ on the back side. it’s very similar notation to my Midge box. I’ve also heard that Miss-Barbie didn’t sell very well, her body parts may had been used for the next generation ‘bendable leg(Barbie and Midge!)’. if so, there may be both type of boxes ‘Made and printed in U.S.A.’ and ‘Made in Japan./Printed in U.S.A.’ for the early bendable leg female dolls. According to the somethingabouttheboy.com site, the colour of the wrist band for bendable leg Ken/Allan in US-printed box are completely silver. I’ve shown my boxed Ken and other examples which seems to be original NRFB(from the internet) below. we can see that their wrist bands are all silver.

Bendable leg Barbie was also sold in 1960’s in Japan(Japanese name was ‘Barbie Bendable’) . they wore various costumes and maybe sold in the Japan- printed box.

USプリントのベンダブルレッグの箱の中でも、おそらくいくつかの女性のベンダブルレッグドールの箱が最も初期ではないかと思われます。例えば、私のケン/スキッパーの箱には’Made in Japan./Printed in U.S.A.’ と書いてありますが、ミッヂの箱は ‘Made and printed in U.S.A’です。とても興味深い事にこの表記は1964年に販売されていた#1060 ‘Miss-Barbie’と同じです。

Miss Barbieは衣装とウィッグ以外はアメリカで製造されたようです。下のMiss Barbieのパッケージはインターネットで見つけた画像です、裏面には’costume & wigs imported from Japan/made & printed in USA’と書いてあり私のミッヂの箱の表記と似ています。Miss Barbieはあまり売れなかったと聞きますのでそのパーツは次世代のベンダブルレッグバービー＆ミッヂに使われた可能性があるのかもしれません。その場合にはバービー/ミッヂには’Made and printed in U.S.A.’と’Made in Japan./Printed in U.S.A.’の両方の箱があるのかもしれません。Made in Japan./Printed in U.S.A.’のバービー/ミッヂの箱を知っているという方が居ましたらぜひ連絡をください。どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。contact@yukkana.com
