Right advertisement is from Apr 1964 Japanese Toy Magazine. flocked hair Ken and Midge were introduced as Barbie’s NEW friends. although in Japan, defective flocked hair Ken was sold(at the time flocked hair Ken had been discontinued in the US already) and also Midge’s product life was short in Japan, she was replaced with New Midge by the end of 1965.

From Nov 1964 Japanese Toy Magazine. very interesting to see that TWO type of Ken dolls (flocked and painted hairs) appeared on the cover photo at the same time. Skipper also appeared in 1964 in Japan. Building in the background is New Otani Hotel which was just completed in 1964.
